Free Events this summer @ SOPOSUP

This summer we are focusing our efforts on getting as many people on the water as we can. Lessons and rentals are great ways for people to start this journey, but lets face it; FREE lessons and tours are almost impossible to resist!

Every Tuesday morning, from about 9am to 10pm, someone from Soposup will be at Higgins Beach in Scarborough to help you learn how to take your new SUP into the surf. Paddling through whitewater, and then into your 1st wave can be intimidating. It takes a lot of practice, and some basic knowledge of surf etiquette to ensure your enjoyment and safety, as well as the safety of those around you. This surf clinic is intended for people who have their own equipment and are already experienced at flat water paddling.

If you haven't tried SUP at all yet, then you need to come to one of our Free Friday Demos at Kettle Cove in Cape Elizabeth. These run every Friday from 9am to about 10:15. We will bring a selection of 6 or 7 different types of boards and anyone is welcome to hop on and try them out. There will be a short introductory lesson period before we get in the water, so its best to get there early rather than later. We ask that people limit their trials to 5 minutes so that everyone gets a chance to try all the different boards. We encourage you to get on each type of board to figure out what works best for you.

Finally, for those more experienced paddlers, we are hosting an Adventure Paddle every saturday at 1pm, which will run approximately 2 hours. It will be different every week, but trips may include a paddle to Richmond Island, a tour of Great Pond, an ice cream trip out to Peaks Island, or a fitness circuit of Scarborough Marsh. The 1st couple trips will be fairly easy, and then every 3rd week we will push ourselves to go a little farther and harder, so that by the end of the summer we can think of a good 8-10 mile run.

For more structured instruction, you should book a lesson, whether private 1-on-1 at a time most convenient to you, or a group lesson of up to six people on Thursdays and Saturday mornings. I'm looking forwards to meeting you in the shop or on the water!
